A $1.3 million development to construct accommodation to attract and retain healthcare professionals to West Gippsland Healthcare Group has been officially opened.
The five modern new units at 6 Sargeant Street Warragul have been funded through the generosity of community donations and a grant from The Andrews Foundation.

WGHG Board Chair, Christine Holland, said the development was the second stage of the Building Better Healthcare Accommodation project which aims to offer quality accommodation to attract high calibre health professionals to bring their expertise to the region.

“Stage one saw the completion of five new units at 4 Sargeant Street in 2016 which are providing modern and comfortable accommodation for visiting clinicians opposite the hospital.”

“The addition of five more units at 6 Sargeant Street will further boost our ability to attract health professionals providing an inviting home-away-from-home while enjoying a satisfying clinical experience.”

The new units, built by Herbel Constructions, will be fully furnished and expected to begin taking tenants next month.

West Gippsland Healthcare Group is called on to provide accommodation for around 50 visiting clinical staff each week.

Mrs Holland said the generosity of The Andrews Foundation and individuals and organisations across West Gippsland who pledged donations to the two projects was extraordinary and humbling.

“Both Accommodation developments have been funded entirely through fundraising. The Andrews Foundation provided a significant grant and an arrangement to match community donations.”

“In recognition, the units have been named The Andrews Foundation Accommodation Units.”

Plaques unveiled at the launch will be placed on both developments to recognise the Andrews Foundation and community donations.
